Linen Couture to join Lithuania’s human chain in solidarity with Belarusian people
A special event will be showing the solidarity of Lithuanians with the people of Belarus fighting for democratic rights this weekend. The Freedom Road will form a human chain from Vilnius to the border with Belarus today, as of Sunday 23 August 2020.
History repeats itself
The social demonstration commemorates the anniversary of the historic Baltic Way, which occurred on the same date 31 years ago. Stretching from Vilnius to Tallinn, it brought together a human chain of 2 million people spanning 675.5 kilometers across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, back then, parts of the Soviet Union.
The organizers expect 50 thousand people to stand side by side from the Cathedral in central Vilnius to the Belarusian border today, 23 August, 7 pm. There will be similar events happening in Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and Georgia.
Small act for a massive movement
As Linen Couture, we have donated around 150 linen flags to protestors that were made by us with special love. The flag – a red horizontal stripe between two white ones – has long been seen as the symbol of the nationalist opposition to Lukashenko, which has now taken on a new life as an inspiration ❤️🤍❤️
We are confident that the people of Belarus will soon see the peaceful transformation that they deserve.
